What a difference three days makes ... the positives from Thursday soon went out the window as a very able Larkhall, who finished 3rd in the South West League Premier Division last season, punished Spits every mistake. And in all honesty the margin should have been greater.
A couple of defensive errors in judgement gifted the visitors the first two goals, in the 6th and 21st minutes, and a third swiftly followed two minutes later. Spits themselves created little with too few balls finding their intended target and possession easily conceded.
However it remained at 3-0 as the teams changed ends so there was hope of an improvement in the second period.
Unfortunately things went from bad to worse, with key players disappearing out of the game. Larkhall rattled in three further goals after 55, 59 and 61 minutes as Spits struggled to deal with their pace. It was 7-0 after 71 minutes, and by the time the final two goals went in in the 83rd and 89th minutes the heart for the game had long gone from the home side.
